Entries now open for the 24th Florianópolis Children’s Film Festival (April 9–May 26)

The largest showcase for audiovisual content made for children in Brazil, the 24th Florianópolis Children’s Film Festival is now accepting entries through May 26. Directors can submit national and international films shorter than 20 minutes, previously unreleased in Santa Catarina, for selection in the Competitive Show. Shows will take place between October 10 and 18, the week Florianópolis becomes the capital of cinema for children in Brazil. The entry form is available at mostradecinemainfantil.com.br/registration-2025.

Brazilian and international feature films may also be entered but will not participate in the Competitive Exhibition. The selected films will be announced on the website and on the festival’s social media channels starting July 10.

The selected short and feature films will be shown at the Main Exhibition, which will take place at Teatro Ademir Rosa (Ademir Rosa Theater) and sala de cinema Gilberto Gerlach (Gilberto Gerlach Cinema Room), at the Integrated Culture Center (CIC), and at the Circuito Escola (School Circuit), which includes more than one hundred public schools and communities in Greater Florianópolis. Another important showcase for screenings is Itaú Cultural Play – a free streaming platform, a partner of the Exhibition dedicated to Brazilian cinema.

The director of the event, Luiza Lins, emphasizes that this is the gateway for children’s films in Brazil and the first window for Brazilian films to the world. “There is a high-quality production of children’s films. Many short films premiere here and then go on to festivals in other countries such as Sweden, the United States and India, which also hold important film festivals for this audience”, she says.

Awards: Three cash prizes will be offered for the Best National Film category, voted by an Official Jury, a Special Children’s Award, voted by a Children’s Jury and Best Film, voted by a People’s Jury. The winners will each receive R$1,500.00 (Fifteen Hundred Reais). The Best International Film will receive a trophy and certificate. Besides, special awards may be granted by partner institutions and that will be announced to all selected films.

In 2024, 219 films from 14 countries applied and 79 were selected, including 59 Brazilian short films and 15 international productions, in addition to five invited feature films. The Brazilian states that submitted the most films were São Paulo, followed by Santa Catarina, demonstrating the relevance of the festival not only in audience development, but also in the training of audiovisual directors for children.

Organized by Lume Produções Culturais, the 24th Florianópolis Children’s Film Festival is the winner of the 2024 Santa Catarina Film Request for Proposal and has an institutional partnership with Itaú Cultural Play.
